Koi Show

The first time I have come across a Fish Show! Unfortunately judging was taking place so we couldn’t see the exhibits.

Raffles

I had agreed to run a raffle at a Christmas event put on by a British expats group. No problem. Except it was … I couldn’t find raffle / cloakroom tickets. I started off in cheapie shops but a customer at one of the stores suggested I tried stationers. Armed with pictures of a variety of tickets, I ‘asked’ at many stationers and the look of disgust on the faces of those who looked told me clearly that the Japanese do not do raffles! Fortunately Amazon came to the rescue.

Selling tickets to some of the Japanese who attended was an interesting experience …. a full explanation plus encouragement of their British friends worked. We finally sold every one of the 500 tickets, raising 5,000 yen for a great charity YouWeMe which assists children living in orphanages. The most popular raffle prizes were cheese and Maltesers!

Tripping out

Like many places around the world, Japan puts on Winter Illuminations; we visited ‘Lights and Horses’ at Oi Racecourse.
