Sakura
Cherry Blossom, Sakura, represents a time of renewal and optimism to the Japanese, the ending of winter and the start of spring. It also symbolises the transience of life, a Buddhist theme.
I was here in Tokyo two years ago when I was lucky to experience Sakura time. But this year, I have thoroughly enjoyed the excitement in the build up to the season; shops being decorated, pink drinks & foods promoted, web sites predicting the timing of the blossom, people suggesting the best (& quietest places) and the sharing of their photographs.
But missing this year is the Hanami element …. picnicking under the blossoming cherry trees, purchasing food and drinks from nearby stalls. Although the State of Emergency was lifted in Tokyo, picnic areas have been cordoned off to dissuade the gathering of crowds. Sad but understandable. Let’s hope things are different next year.
And now my photos … I have taken sooooo many on wet days, sunny days, wherever I am, at night time. Here are a ‘few’ –
The photo above is my last of the blossom …. wind and rain on Sunday & Monday morning means that the Sakura Season has been brief this year.

Thanks Susan … it has been a very short season this year because the weather hasn’t been kind x
Beautiful photos. I think I always imagined they would be more pink!
I think the pink blossom appeared later … and this year the bad weather removed the white blossom early x
