Lunch time
In addition to the myriad of restaurants serving lunches, there are many stalls selling bento boxes on the sides of the streets for people to purchase to eat back in their offices.
Below, you will see a number of food vendors who have set up their food carts at the base of a large office block.
In the photos above, you choose your lunch and pay for it via the vending machine, then walk into the shop to collect it. This must speed up the transaction greatly.
Our lunch one day (we did have a box each!) purchased from one of our local supermarkets for less than £4.
Moving away from lunch, but on a food theme …
When you enter many supermarkets, you walk into the wonderful aroma of, not bread, but freshly baked sweet potatoes. Carefully situated just as you enter the store!

Such dainty and inviting looking food combos ….. and sweet potato being a new love of mine, I like the idea of them being supermarket ‘fast food’. Hope we can get to Japan one day soon to sample some of the delicacies on offer.
