Omori, Tokyo
Omori, situated on the southern edge of the city, is our first home in Japan. Based on what we could see from the windows of our 17th floor apartment (and that is all that we could see during our quarantine) we thought that it was all residential and business. Indeed, rather boring.
But freedom and the ability to explore has changed my mind ….. and particularly given my ability to get lost, I have now probably walked around most of it.

Boat racing is a big thing in Japan … one of Japan’s main sports and this course is on the edge of Omori. One man, or woman, screeches around in a hydroplane. It has a stadium & you have to pay to watch (hence the photo from a nearby bridge). We watched the queue of people at the entrance & suddenly understood the appeal. All men and holding race cards …. yes, it is an event where betting is allowed!

And this ends your very brief photographic overview of Omori.

Love the idea of boat racing- slightly different to horse racing at Happy Valley, HK! How’s Geoff getting on at work regarding language- English & Japanese spoken, I assume? Merry Christmas to you both.
The queue for the boat racing reminded us of the queue for racing at Sha Tin. Not much English spoken but the company employs translators. Happy New Year to you both!
